AFTERGLOW: 14/15 COLDSMOKE AWARDS WINNER BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

afterglow

Night. It’s the hour of infinite possibility. Follow the likes of Pep Fujas and Eric Hjorleifson, Chris Benchetler and Daron Rahlves as they take to Alaskan spines and BC pillows, shredding the biggest and boldest lines ever ridden at night. Shot with a crew of 14 people over the course of 6 weeks, Afterglow involved a deep collaboration on ideas, passions, and product between partners from Stockholm to Salt Lake City, merging Sweetgrass’ cinematic style with the branding of one of the world’s premiere television manufacturers, Philips TV.

As the most logistically daunting project in Sweetgrass’ history, over 9,000 lbs of equipment were shuttled across international borders and chest deep snow via a wide array of planes, trains, automobiles, helicopters, pulley systems, and gallons of blood, sweat, and tears, reaching locations as far as 70 miles from the nearest town.

From the depth of the creative visuals to the groundbreaking, never-‐been-‐done before scale
of the shoot, Afterglow is being hailed as one of the most cinematically profound ski movies
ever made.

COLDSMOKE TOUR IN FULL SWING

cstour

The Coldsmoke Winter Film Tour is in full swing and Coldsmoke Apparel has joined forces with our touring trunk show. Our first stop brought us deep into Big Sky country, and the small mountain village nestled at the foot of the magnificent 11,166 ft, Lone Peak. The local color was in full effect including shirtless displays of questionable tattoos, Montennessee moonshine boiled up by a local organic chemistry professor, and one kitchen belt made of cellophane thankfully holding up the pants of the inimitable “Spud”.  Coldsmoke gear turned the heads and gained praises of even these self-proclaimed “dirt bags”, members of the “duct tape on gortex tribe”.  The next day we journeyed on through the wildest regions of Yellowstone Park and arrived in cowboy Beverly Hills, AKA Jackson WY, for the second stop of the tour. Coldsmoke Collective head honcho Randy Breitenbach and members of the Coldsmoke family including Eddie Wall, PJ’d in for the party and were treated to some early season powder at the Hole. Stay tuned for more pics and updates from the journey. Next stop Bellingham Washington, 12/18. We hope to see you there.

COLDSMOKE AWARDS 2014

Cris Kamman of Big Sky Resort stoking up the audience.

Last Saturday the Coldsmoke Winter Film tour culminated in Bozeman Montana, during the Coldsmoke Awards Ceremony where winning filmmakers in 9 categories were awarded $10,000 in prize money.  In the mix was  Coldsmoke ambassador and pro-snowboarder Scotty Vine, photographers Justin Chambers and Laura Austin, and our graphic designer Justin Kizzart, who was live screen printing Coldsmoke tees. The evening was characterized by colorful presenters and warm mountain culture vibes.

Out of 40 film entries, this year’s grand prize went to the Norwegian film, North of the Sun, about a two hearty lads who build a shelter and score secluded waves on a remote Norwegian Island. And the People’s Choice Award, awarded to the winner of the People’s Choice online viewing and voting contest, went to Vaya a la Cumbre, a film that tells the universal tale of son’s struggle to live a life of his own while in the shadow of his father’s legacy.

Check out the full list of winners here.

#COLDSTOKED IN BOZEMAN – IPHONE PICS

CC-BOZEMAN

I went to Bozeman, Montana for the first time for the CSA show. I had never been to that part of the country before, so I was extremely curious as to what I was about to encounter. Because of that, I decided to fly in the day before the rest of the team so that I could explore with some invited guests and friends, Jared Chambers and Laura Austin. We drove around on Friday to find some cool spots to get some photos. In case you are unfamiliar, Jared and Laura are incredible at the whole Instagram thing. After you get through this post, I highly recommend clicking on their links provided and see what they are all about.

Anyway, we found a really great spot in Hyalite Canyon. We went for a hike in the snow that led up to a really amazing frozen waterfall. We climbed up to get some shots and take in the scenery that I am sharing with you here.

Stay tuned for more photos shot by Laura this week!

FANNY PACKS AND PINK ONESIES THRILL IN “PROGRESSION IS REGRESSION”

Screen Shot 2013-12-20 at 1.00.16 PM

As the Daily Show and Colbert Report have proven, the best cultural criticism arrives in the guise of parody. The Bridger Brigade applied this approach to their local mountain politics in the meta-retro spoof “Progression is Regression.” View it along with more than 20 other films selected for the Coldsmoke Winter Film Tour Awards, and cast a vote for the Peoples Choice Award to be entered to win a $1000 and Canadian Catskiing trip.

Catch the last leg of the  Winter Film Tour tonight 12/20  at the Alta Arts Center in Utah.
