COLDSMOKE CHRONICLES : COSTA RICA RAINY SEASON

coldsmoke costa rica 14

When we heard our friends Jamie and Taylor were headed down to Costa Rica during the rainy season we thought it would be the perfect occasion to test out our eVent waterproof and super breathable rain jackets and our new Fidlock travel shorts.

Words by Jamie:

For years now I’ve dreamt about surfing Pavones, one of the longest left hand point breaks in the world. So for my birthday we flew to Central Costa Rica, rented a car and adventured down south to the Costa Rica, Panama border.  We took a weeks time, surfing and finding unique accommodations along the way.  A true sense of freedom.  We surfed in warm water with macaws flying overhead.  Fact: macaws fly in pairs and mate for life, if one dies the other will too shortly after.  It was very romantic.

After a few days of driving, we finally made it to Pavones.  The waves were fun and the next few days consisted of nothing but surfing, eating, exploring the jungle, lounging in our bungalow and of course, more surfing.  It was a beautiful birthday to remember.

A WANDERING MINSTREL FOR THE DIGITAL AGE

postcards

Brisbane producer Omegachild, redefines what it means to be a wandering minstrel in the digital age. Equipped with a portable music studio scaled to fit in a single backpack, Omegachild was able to make music while immersed within the environments that inspired him. “I opened myself up to the land and let in pour through me, and I totally disappeared.”

#COLDSTOKED IN BOZEMAN – IPHONE PICS

CC-BOZEMAN

I went to Bozeman, Montana for the first time for the CSA show. I had never been to that part of the country before, so I was extremely curious as to what I was about to encounter. Because of that, I decided to fly in the day before the rest of the team so that I could explore with some invited guests and friends, Jared Chambers and Laura Austin. We drove around on Friday to find some cool spots to get some photos. In case you are unfamiliar, Jared and Laura are incredible at the whole Instagram thing. After you get through this post, I highly recommend clicking on their links provided and see what they are all about.

Anyway, we found a really great spot in Hyalite Canyon. We went for a hike in the snow that led up to a really amazing frozen waterfall. We climbed up to get some shots and take in the scenery that I am sharing with you here.

Stay tuned for more photos shot by Laura this week!

WHISTLER IN 35MM FILM – PART 1

COLDSMOKE-Whistler-35mm-part-1-11

The Coldsmoke team was in Whistler for a few days for the CSA Awards this past week and I must say as a first timer there, I was completely blown away by the immense beauty up there. I really didn’t want to leave and that says a lot considering that I usually get homesick for LA after only a day on the road. Anyway, I took a bunch of photos on the Yashica T4 and Mamiya 7ii. Enjoy.

PALM SPRINGS ART MUSEUM – 35MM

I had a chance to hang out in Palm Springs for 24 hours to get some photos and while there, I made a stop over at the Palm Springs Art Museum. I had my trusty Yashica T4 with me, so I got a few snaps of some of the stuff there. Flash photography was not allowed, but it was well lit enough to get some good shots. It’s a great museum. Really fantastic stuff can be seen there as part of the museum’s permanent collection including a nice range of Mesoamerican pieces, contemporary works, photography, and much more.

TRAVEL: NEW YORK CITY – 35MM

I recently took a trip to NYC and while there, I busted out the Yashica T4 and got a few snaps of the city. I got to hang out in Brooklyn and explore for the first time. Previous times there, I was working, so I never had a chance to see what that part of town had to offer. I had a couple of rad guides including photographer Brian Merriam (I highly recommend you clicking on his name to see his work, but not before you’re done with this post of course). We cruised around for a bit before I had to get back to Manhattan.

While in NYC, I stopped by the Sneeze Mag #20 launch party at Stussy New York. I finally had the chance to meet the publisher, Mr. Sneeze, after being “cyber buds” for the last few years working on stuff here and there. It was cool to link up with him and take in the event, which turned out to be a lot of fun. The lovely cover girl, Clara Alonso, was in the house and Cool Calm Pete played some fantastic hip-hop throughout the duration of the event. Good times.

AGENDA LAS VEGAS RECAP

We were out in Las Vegas last week for the Agenda Trade Show and we must say that it went extremely well. We didn’t go to showcase our collection, but more so to take a few meetings in addition to checking the sights and sounds of Sin City for a few days. While there, we went out to Red Rock Canyon with my friends Wendy of Nitrolicious and Yu-Ming of Freshnessmag/Sneakernews, as well as Mount Charleston. Stay tuned for some photos from our adventures out in those beautiful areas of Vegas, but for now, check out a few photos I took while at the trade show here.

PORTLAND VISIT – RECAP PART 3

Here is the final installment – digital photos, still have some 35mm snaps to share – of my photo recap from a visit out to Portland last month. Portland certainly is an interesting city. There’s all sorts of neat stuff to see. I really dig how they embrace being weird, too. Good stuff.

Portland Visit – Recap Part 2

Here is part 2 of my Portland visit recap. This was when I hung out at Eagle Creek for like 6 hours. It was really cool and a nice time overall. It was so lush and green and was a great change of pace from Los Angeles. It was really nice getting up there and not being a part of the world for a portion of the day. Also, you get a glimpse of our super awesome Asymmetric jacket that will be available this Fall/Winter season. It’s my personal favorite from our collection, which says a lot given how great our inaugural collection is! Enjoy.

PORTLAND VISIT – RECAP PART 1

I can’t believe I have not posted these sooner. I was in Portland about a month ago and I snapped a lot of random pics out in the streets, and in a beautiful area known as Eagle Creek. I tried going through our blog to look at the photos, only to discover that they have not even been put up yet. Better late than never, right? This is part 1 of 3 (4 including my 35mm photos), so stay tuned for more photos!
